“Thoughts” - Acrylic on 25x35 cm canvas. Varnish applied. / 2020 © Defne Dilek

A universe inside the mind…

“Thoughts” is an intuitive expressionist piece blending abstract and figurative elements. The face depicted is not just a portrait — it is a form sculpted by inner thoughts.

The swirling background represents the flux of ideas, emotions, and subconscious imagery, while the linear outline symbolizes consciousness trying to contain the chaos. Together, they capture both the vastness and solitude of mental experience.

Some thoughts never take shape — yet they always leave a trace.
